Eph 5:8 “But you were once darkness, when you did not know the will of the Lord; but now you know all things. Therefore, as great as the difference is between light and darkness, so far ought you to stand apart from your former way of life.
But now you are light in the Lord; walk as children of light. It must be carefully observed that we ourselves are darkness, but we are light in the Lord, so that no one may glory in his own merits.
Eph 5:9 For the fruit of light consists in goodness, justice, and truth. True knowledge produces such fruits.
Eph 5:10 Testing what is pleasing to God. From the Law examine what God wills, not what men assert.
Eph 5:11 And because light cannot have fellowship with darkness, whatever is done without the fear or knowledge of God profits nothing, nor does anything avail which is not done for the sake of God.
But rather reprove them. Not only should you refuse to participate, but you should even rebuke them.
Eph 5:12 For the things done by them in secret—whether in houses or in temples—it is shameful even to speak of them. It is shameful for us to speak of the things which they are not ashamed to do, as though in darkness.
Eph 5:13-14 But all things that are reproved by the light are made manifest. A person begins to be light when he believes and is joined to you. For everything that is made manifest is light.
As he says to the Corinthians: “Even the secrets of his heart are made manifest; and thus, falling upon his face, he will adore God, declaring that truly God is among you" (cf., 1 Cor 14:25).
Therefore he says, “Awake, you who sleep.” As if he were saying: do not communicate in the unfruitful works of darkness. The voice of some wise man pierces the conscience of a pagan; one praises the good of continence, another sets forth the dangers of luxury.
“And Christ will enlighten you.” When you have believed in him, you will become light.
